In TV Tokyo HD's interim financial results, the anime and streaming business saw an 11.1% increase in operating profit; among TV Tokyo's anime titles, "NARUTO" ranked first in sales.
On November 5, TV Tokyo Holdings announced its financial results for the second quarter (interim period, April–September 2026) of the fiscal year ending March 2027. Although consolidated revenue and profit declined, operating profit for the anime and streaming business rose 11.1% year-over-year to 4.389 billion yen. According to the company’s supplementary financial materials, among the anime titles produced by its core subsidiary TV Tokyo, “NARUTO” ranked first in revenue for the first half of the fiscal year, followed by “BORUTO” in second place.
Consolidated Results Show Decline in Revenue and Profit; Anime and Streaming Segments Report Increased Profit
Consolidated revenue was 75,197 million yen (down 6.0% year-on-year), and operating income was 2,470 million yen (down 65.0%). Revenue from the terrestrial and BS broadcasting business totaled 44.84 billion yen (down 10.1%), and the segment posted an operating loss of 1.49 billion yen. The supplementary financial statements attribute this to a rebound from the significant increase in broadcasting revenue from TV Tokyo in the previous year, as well as the impact of global uncertainty.
Revenue from the anime and streaming business totaled 25.177 billion yen (up 1.2%), and operating income was 4.389 billion yen (up 11.1%). The report’s headline describes this business as having achieved “record profits.” For the July–September quarter alone, operating profit was 2.196 billion yen (up 16.1%).
"NARUTO" and "BORUTO" are the top sellers
Revenue from the anime segment of the core subsidiary TV Tokyo’s Rights Business totaled 12.878 billion yen in the first half of the fiscal year (up 3.6%). In the same period last year, revenue was 12.426 billion yen. The report notes that revenue reached a record high due to strong performance in overseas game adaptations and merchandising.
The financial results summary cites strong performance overseas of the smartphone app games “NARUTO” and “BORUTO,” the commercialization and release of “NARUTO,” and the release of “BLEACH” as contributing factors. Domestically, the merchandising of “NARUTO” also performed well. The supplementary materials identify “NARUTO” and “BORUTO” as core titles and summarize that smartphone games, merchandising, and distribution continue to perform well overseas.
The TV Tokyo sales rankings by anime series (first-half results) were as follows: 1st place, “NARUTO”; 2nd place, “BORUTO”; 3rd place, “Yu-Gi-Oh!”; 4th place, “Pokémon”; and 5th place, “BLEACH.” Sales figures for individual titles were not disclosed.

The regional breakdown of TV Tokyo’s anime sales is as follows: China 30.8%, North America 25.7%, Japan 14.7%, Asia and the Middle East (including India, Latin America, Africa, and Oceania) 10.5%, Europe at 10.1%, and global licensing at 8.1%. These figures represent the overall percentage of anime revenue, not the breakdown by individual title.

TV Tokyo Music, a music publisher, reported sales of 2.382 billion yen (up 8.3%), driven by steady royalty income from domestic and international sources, led by songs related to “NARUTO.”
Plans for 2027
The supplementary material titled “Anime Topics [PHONE]” features “PROJECT RASENGAN,” a major global project for “NARUTO.” In addition to producing new anime and manga, the project aims to establish a medium- to long-term roadmap for expanding the franchise across a wide range of areas, including video games and related merchandise.
Four items were announced. The first is an all-new anime series, “NARUTO × NINKŪ” (4 episodes total), with Masashi Kishimoto and Koji Kiriyama—the original creator of “NINKŪ”—serving as supervising directors for all episodes. The production team includes Noriyuki Abe (director) and Tetsuya Nishio (character designer and chief animation director), who previously worked on “NINKŪ” and “Boruto - Naruto Next Generations.” The second announcement is the creation of a new manga by Kishimoto; the third is the worldwide simultaneous release of a new trading card game from BANDAI CARD GAMES in June 2027; and the fourth is the worldwide release of the fighting action game “NARUTO MOBILE,” though the release date has not yet been determined.
"NARUTO" premiered on TV Tokyo in 2002 and is currently broadcast in more than 145 countries and regions around the world. It will mark its 25th anniversary in 2027.
Full-Year Forecast: Operating Income Lowered, Anime and Streaming Revenues Raised
On the same day, the company also revised its full-year consolidated earnings forecast for the fiscal year ending March 2027. Operating income was revised downward from 11.5 billion yen to 10.0 billion yen, and net sales were revised downward from 168.0 billion yen to 161.0 billion yen. The report states that while the anime sector is expected to continue growing in the second half of the fiscal year, uncertainty remains regarding the advertising market.
The operating profit forecast for the anime and streaming business was raised from 8.58 billion yen to 9.679 billion yen. For TV Tokyo’s standalone rights business, the revenue forecast for anime was left unchanged at 29.006 billion yen (up 6.6% year-over-year).
